ISSB for female candidates

Female candidates appear at the same ISSB, with the same four-day process and the same assessment framework as male candidates. Physical standards are set per branch and tend to be slightly lower for female candidates, so always check the current circular of the branch you are applying to.
The ISSB assessment is identical for male and female candidates: the same screening, the same psychological tests, the same group tasks, and the same interviews. What differs is branch-specific eligibility and physical standards, which are set by each service rather than by ISSB itself. Female candidates apply through the same service portals; for the Army this includes the Lady Cadet Course (LCC) alongside BMA Long Course intakes. They then go through the same preliminary medical, viva, and written test, the four-day board, and their branch's final selection.
Indicative physical standards
- Army: female candidates generally need a minimum height of about 1.60 m (5 ft 2 in) with a branch-set minimum weight.
- Navy: minimum heights are set per circular, generally lower than the male standard.
- Air Force: around 1.57 m for most ground branches and higher for flying branches.

Dress and grooming
Female candidates are generally advised to dress modestly according to prevailing social norms, keep hair neatly tied, avoid wearing jewellery during outdoor obstacle tasks, and bring a tracksuit for physical activities. The call-up letter usually specifies any seasonal clothing requirements.
What to expect at the board
You will be fully boarded with the same free accommodation and food as every other candidate. The screening, tests, and interviews follow exactly the same schedule and standards described throughout this guide. Guardians are not required, though they may accompany you on the first day and return on the final day.
Preparing as a female candidate
The preparation advice in this guide applies equally: build genuine fitness, fluency in Bangla and English, current affairs knowledge, and handwriting speed, and practise the format honestly. The board is looking for the same qualities in every candidate, regardless of gender.
