The ISSB selection process begins with a Screening Test, and its first stage is the Intelligence Test. It has two parts: a non-verbal test of 50 items in 26 minutes and a verbal test of 100 items in 35 minutes.

This test marks the beginning of the assessment of a candidate's intellectual ability. Based on their performance in the Intelligence Test, candidates undergo the initial screening process.
The Intelligence Test consists of two parts:
- Non-Verbal Intelligence Test
- Verbal Intelligence Test
Before the start of each section, the examiner provides detailed audio-visual instructions explaining the test procedure, question formats, and the method of answering. Candidates are also given an opportunity to practice before the actual test begins.
The first part is the Non-Verbal Intelligence Test, in which candidates are required to answer 50 items within 26 minutes. Each question contains four or more answer choices. Candidates can easily select their answers using a mouse and may change their responses at any time before the allotted time expires.
This section primarily evaluates visual reasoning skills through questions involving pattern recognition, sequence completion, identifying relationships among shapes and figures, and other types of visual puzzles.
The second part is the Verbal Intelligence Test, where candidates must answer 100 items within 35 minutes. Each question has five answer choices, and candidates can select or modify their answers by clicking with the mouse until the time limit ends.
The Verbal Intelligence Test generally includes questions on mathematical problems, logical reasoning, analytical thinking, odd-one-out, analogies, jumbled words, arithmetic problems, and similar reasoning-based topics.
The difficulty level of the questions is not necessarily progressive or consistent. Some questions may be more challenging than others. If a particular question seems difficult, it is advisable not to spend too much time on it. Instead, move on and continue solving the remaining questions to maximize your overall score.
